3/3/2008 --- U23 CHAMPION AT WOLFS INDOOR
The U23 have won the Monday night Championship at Wolfs Indoor. After dispatching European Devils 6:0 and Ligers 7:0 the team met fellow Saturn FC players in Piramex for the final. The championship match ended up with a 1:0 victory for the U23 Team with Josh Bragg- Joey Syfert- Philip Overby- Padraig McDonagh- Corey Herron- Cris Perez- Stephen Semasky- Matt Burleson- Brett Wooten- Sasha Tsyra- Denis Reis- Spencer Davidson- Sanu Sowe and Coach Marcos DaSilva.
1/27/2008 --- SATURN FC (3) LAKE VIEW (0)
Saturn FC started out the season well in todays match against Lake View. The Saturn team scored quickly on a good effort from player/coach Melvin Hill. Lake View tried to answer back immediately but could not find a way through the Saturn defense. The Saturn backline was lucky as well. The seemingly quicker Lake View forwards were sworming the box but the finishing was just not there. Second half changes in the Saturn defense helped the team to control the pitch a bit better. Danny Acevedo had no problem Finishing for the 2:0 in the 75th minute. David Wolf finished the score with a brilliant ball into the upper ninety from 35 yards out. Good first effort of the team in the brandnew season.
12/14/2007 --- FINAL SATURN FC (0) FUERTE SAN JOSE (1)
I always thought both teams should have 11 players, and then there were three non partial referees. And the other thing I was always sure of was that 95% of the time, the center official would call a foul in favour of the defense on a floating set play into the box. And then the other 5 % would almost always go for the offense inside the opponents box. Well, the "Arbitros" were spot on today- 100 % for the defense, including the defense using the "Hand of God" twice, and a real 50/50 went the defense way as well on a take down in the box. Saturn got less than 0% being the better team this Sunday. Well, and then there was that Fuerte San Jose score, it was from an incredible offside position, it was actually more than the usual lowsy 5% the forwards get. More like the 100% the defense of San Jose had already pocketed !!!! Saturn: good, solid effort. I am sorry you got cheated.
12/2/2007 --- SATURN FC (3) Geuerrero FC (2)
A tough match against Guerrero FC this afternoon ended in a 3:2 victory for Saturn FC. After a frantic start Saturn went ahead on an own goal that followed high pressure attacks. Noel Kierans was sent off in the 20th minute for a tackle from behind. The immediate answer for Guerrero was quick attacks and the young team scored the equalizer in the 30th minute. Saturn changed their line up for the second half and scored in the 47th minute, when Melvin Hill was at the end of a combination play between Akanihu and Davidson. Hill placed the shot into the corner and left the keeper without a chance. But a defensive mistake and a frozen Keeper in the Saturn net for the 2:2 gave Guerrero new hope. However, the opponent could not use their man advantage. Sasha Tsyra scored the match winner in the 78th minute when he got by his defender and the keeper for the 3:2 result. Guerrero answered with power attacks in the last minutes of the match. The Saturn "wall" held up and the spot in the final was captured.
11/25/2007 --- SATURN FC (1) GUERRERO FC (1)
A better first half helped Saturn FC to ( once more ) take the lead in the GEMESA playoffs. Veteran Noel Kierans scored a beautiful goal in the 25th Minute. Saturn looked surely like a winner and it seemed to be just a matter of time when the next goals had to come. But after the restart the very young Guerrero FC team fought back bravely and scored the equalizer in the 65th minute. Minutes later Matt Dale was sent off for a standard tackle. Saturn surprised the opponent by not stepping back but looking for the winning goal. But with a forwardline that harmless all the efforts out of midfield failed. Guerrero FC missed to use their man advantage and seemed satisfied with a draw. The rematch will be next Sunday at Buchanan Stadium.
11/18/2007 --- Saturn FC (2) Real Espana (2)
Saturn was again leading the match against this ultimate hardnose Real Espana team. Defenders had to score though. Matt Dale (3.) and Alexdandre Badila(26.) both finished crosses with headers early in the first half. Real Espana got one goal back in the 10th minute ( 1:1 ) but disappeared for the rest of half one. Four line up changes in the Saturn Eleven promised more offensive power for the second half. But only one shot by Jeff Carlin in the 80th minute came close to goal. Real Espana equalized in the 75th minute. Despite not having produced a winner in the series, Saturn advanced due to the higher seeding in the regular season play.
11/11/2007 --- Real Espana (1 ) Saturn FC (1)
A last minute mistake in the defense gave Real Espana the equalizer in a very well played quarter final match this Sunday morning. Napoleon Onate's 30 + yards shot had given Saturn the lead. The opponent was given a PK when Keeper Brad Bagwell took the ball off a forward inside the box with some added force. The PK went wide- as previously said, there is a PK God !! The teams will meet again next Sunday 10AM at Buchanan to decide who will move into the next round.
11/4/2007 --- SATURN FC (0) GUERRERO FC (1)
A poor showing by Saturn FC today against Guerrero FC. Saturn had the majority of possession. But, as in so many games this season creating and finishing goalchances was missing. The team did score the equalizer, but it was called back for off sides. There were a few chances in the first half to go ahead and win the match. The Saturn strikers did not find a way to beat the very good keeper in the opponents net.
11/3/2007 --- POSAHUALCO (2) REAL SATURN (2)
Real was dispatched out of Copa Brito by Penalty kicks. The match ended in a 2:2 draw. A very interesting and strong played 90 minutes could not end up with a winner. Denis Reis had scored the 1:0 in the 12th minute. Posahualco equalized and went ahead 2:1, before Cristobal " Messinho " Perez scored the 2:2 just before half time. The second half was pretty much even in possession, but Posahualco having the better chances to score and win the match. Real's Keeper Jeremy Branham came up with some unbelievable saves to keep his team in the match. The tournament rules did not allow extra time. Pk's were taken immediately after the final whistle. Denis Reis missed his chance for his second goal of the day, which gave the opponent the spot in the Semifinals.
10/29/2007 --- SATURN FC ( 3 ) REAL SAN MIGUEL (1)
Saturn played another hardnose team Sunday afternoon. Real San Miguel just did not allow them to finish numerous chances in the first half. Santiago Herrera put Saturn up 1:0 in the 10th minute. The team played reasonably well even though the opponent was constantly pressuring the midfielders. Saturn missed a good chance for goal in the 50th minute and Real San Miguel took possession to score the 1:1 equalizer just one minute later. Saturn went back on top in the 60th minute but started to play very sloppy which gave the opponent hope to get an equalizer. Things got worse for a moment when Mamadou Ndoye received his second caution and had to leave the field. San Miguel could not use their momentum as an advantage. Relief for Saturn came in the 85th minute. Marty Walker's power throw in fooled the entire defense and Cris " Messi'nho " Perez scored the 3:1. The young Saturn player came in late in the match and turned the San Miguel defense upside down with his dribbling skills.
10/27/2007 --- SAN DIEGO (0) REAL SATURN (6)
Real did a lot of things right this afternoon in Gainesville. After ten minutes Denis Reis and Fredy Juarez had made it 2:0. A brilliant looper over the SD keeper by Cristobal Perez took care of the 3:0 half time result. Little pressure only from the opponent, no problems to the strong backline of Gustavo Rey, Jonathan Gustard and Skipper Alexandre Badila. Fredy's second goal of the day and goals by Martin Gallegos and Sasha Tsyra took care of the end result. It won' t be that easy in the quarters my friends !
10/21/2007 --- SATURN FC ( 1 ) REAL ESPANA ( 1 )
Mamadou Ndoye returned to the squad after a long injury time-out Sunday and was instrumental in taking home one valuable point from Stone Mountain. He scored the Saturn goal of the day. Real Espana is another contender for the League title.
10/20/2007 --- REAL SATURN ( 2 ) DURANGO (1 )
The result sounds much closer than it actually was, but the 2:1 victory over Durango was not one to brag about either. Real took a long time to break the deadlock. Wes Nichols took his chance after the keeper could not defend David Wolf's header well enough for the 1:0. Fredy Guarez made it 2:0 with a brilliant goal in the 65th minute. But then Durango scored the 1:2 and applied pressure on Real. David Wolf and Danny Florez were sent off in the final minute of the match. Some unbelievable decisions by the center referee. The team has filed protests with the Cup D & P for both send offs. Real will face San Diego Jr's on Saturday at 5 PM in Gainesville in the Round of 16.
10/14/2007 --- SATURN FC ( 0 ) COMONFORT ( 0 )
Saturns opponents Conomfort proved to be a handful on Sunday. The match itself was without much excitement on both ends, apart of a bad PK decision for Comonfort. The kick went off the post for a goal kick, there is a PK- GOD !!! Wolf, Acevedo and Badila were redcarded for Saturn, 4 Comonfort players were sent off. A poor performance by the Officials, who lost control very early in the match.
10/13/2007 --- CafeCol ( 4 ) Real Saturn ( 2 )
Real had to digest an early goal from Cafe Col after the team had started very slowly. But Sasha Tsyra and Corey Herron corrected the score by halftime. Having more of the play in the first half, Saturn looked to take the lead in the group. But three huge mistakes in the defense made that bubble burst within minutes after the restart. It was unbelievable to see the team take a step back and hand the match over to the Colombian Tournament favorites. This was not a performance ! This was hopefully a bad Saturday in Gainesville !
10/9/2007 --- S I X P E A T FOR INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
The Saturn Metro indoor team won yet another Indoor Championship at Wolfs Indoor Soccer. The team faced BRASIL in a very tough first round match. After a 3:3 tie in regulation time, it took 7 rounds of penalties to produce Saturn as the winner. INTER was up next and in a very good match Saturn stayed in the tournament with a well deserved 2:1 win. The final was again versus REAL. The Brazilian team fell behind early with an extra "gooooolazzo" 1:0 special from Skipper David Wolf. The match ended with a 5:1 blow-out for the SIXPEAT CHAMPION. - TEAM: Brad Bagwell- David Wolf- Alex Badila- Sasha Tsyra- Erick Vidana- Cristobal Perez- Melvin Hill- Daniel Acevedo- Daniel Florez- Jaime Benedetti- Wes Nichols and Jeff Carlin
10/7/2007 --- FUERTE SAN JOSE (3) SATURNF FC (0)
A clear 3:0 was the answer of League Leaders Fuerte San Jose. And Saturn FC could not do a thing about it. The opponent went up 2:0 early in the match, when the entire team was outplayed by the good passing and finishing of Fuerte San Jose. Their quick forwards were just buzzing around at will inside the Saturn half. It got better for Saturn after about 30 minutes. All of a sudden more play was created and Saturn started to look more dangerous. Chances were missed on both ends of the pitch, but Saturn gained more possession. The second half started a Saturn comeback try, but San Jose was very smart in keeping the lead. Big chances for Saturn Forwards turned into nothing. A bit unlucky but the opponent's victory is completely in order and well deserved.
10/6/2007 --- COPA BRITO OPENER - 6:0 WIN OVER REAL FELINOS
Skipper David Wolf opened the gates in the Real Felino defense when he tipped in a cross from Wes Nichols for the 1:0 only four minutes into the first half. Wes Nichols scored the 2:0 only minutes later, when he beat two defensive players over left wing and left the keeper without any chance with a low and hard drive into the far corner. Boubacar Toure took an excellent pass from Martin Gallegos in the 42nd minute for the 3:0 half time result. Real Felinos did not put up much of a fight this afternoon and fell behind 4:0 when Toure finished his second score from the PK spot. Sasha Tsyra finally finished one of his great right wing runs and tipped in the ball past the Felinos Keeper after he had spun the entire defense with his dribbling skills. The final 6:0 was scored by Martin Gallegos after a beautiful cross from Cristobal Perez.
9/30/2007 --- CHAPULTEPEC (0) SATURN FC (0)
Saturn faced second place Chapultepec in League play today. It was the first real test for the team after most of the previous opponents were dismissed rather easily. The team is still experimenting in various areas, but seems to find some rythm now. All in all a good performance by Melvin Hill's team.
9/23/2007 --- SATURN (5) VERACRUZ (3)
Santiago Herrera scored three magic goals to get Saturn FC on the winning course earlier today. Matt Dale's 60plus yards rocket could qualify as goal of the year. And newcomer Ryan Robertson scored his first in a Saturn shirt to secure the halftime lead, 5:1. The second half was used to bring on more new players to the team. A little experimenting and 5 missed goal opportunities by Saturn gave the opponent new life. They scored 2 unanswered goals for the final 5:3 result.
9/16/2007 --- San Isidro (2) SATURN FC (4)
FC scored in the second minute of the match, when Wes Nichols danced through the defense of San Isidro and finished low into the right hand corner. The remainder of the first half however looked more like kickball than a soccer match. San Isidro was allowed to score a goal in the 40th minute to tie the match. The second half showed finally some good combinations and passing. Jeff Carlin scored a "brasil-like" 2:1 , when his toe kick in the upper ninety surprised the keeper. A very nice combination play had Marvin Martin break away over left wing. His cross met Wes Nichols for his second of the day, 3:1. Finally Martin himself found net in the 70th minute for the 4:1. Keeper Bagwell was redcarded in the 85th minute when he tried to take away the ball from the opponent inside the penalty box. Stand in Keeper Jeff Carlin saved the penalty shot, but shortly after was caught way off the line for the final score 4:2.
9/9/2007 --- SATURN FC ( 4) SELENE ( 3 )
Despite replacing 8 starters the "true" Saturn FC squad rallied Selene with 10 man after Stopper Matt Dale was sent off in the 60th minute. Goals from Marvin Martin (2), Santi Herrera and Jeff Carlin secured the victory over a strong opponent.
8/19/2007 --- SATURN FC (5) ACAPULCO (3)
Todays match against Acapulco was not the best performance you would want from your team, both the discipline and professional mental attitude lacking. Short a number of starters from the previous season, the team started newcomers Brian Johnson in goal and Daniel Acevedo in central midfield. DII 's top scorer three seasons ago, Jeff Carlin, found net 3 times in the first half and assisted with a goal. Sasha Tsyra and Brad Bagwell scored the two other Saturn goals. Acapulco received 4 - that would be FOUR - PENALTY KICKS from the referee. And those after the sendoff of Jon Arsenault ( double yellow ) Melvin Hill ( violent play ) Jordann Griffith ( violent play ) and Daniel Alcevedo, who cleared a shot off his goal line with his hand.
8/12/2007 --- REAL SATURN G.E.M.E.S.A. CHAMPS AGAIN
A 5:2 win over Dep. Laguna gave Real the GEMESA CHAMPIONSHIP today. Goals from Smiley Dupuy, Napoleon Onate, Jason Christie, Mike Mecerod and Brett Wooten gave the team the VICTORY>
8/4/2007 --- REAL TAKE 1ST SEMIFINAL - SATURN FC FINISH CARIB-LEAGUE STRONG
Real Saturn took step one of the GEMESA Semifinals yesterday by beating Juventud Riverena 3:2 in a hard fought match at Life University. Sebastien Salomone equalized 1:1 with a brilliant header in the 40th minute. Mike Mecerod added two goals to bring home the victory. -- Saturn FC looked like a sure loser after going down 0:3 against Caribbean League Champion TC United in the first half. A complete turnaround in the second half, when finally passion and will to win took over. Jason Christie, Sasha Tsyra and Diego Gonzales scored the goals to a respectable tie. However, the team failed to make the playoffs in their first year in the Caribbean League.
7/30/2007 --- SATURN R E T R O INDOOR FIVEPEAT FOR CHAMPS
For the fifth time in a row, Saturn RETRO Indoor won the Open Championship at Wolfs Indoor. On playoff night they defeated Milan ATL 7:1, STRIKERS 4:0 and finished 5:2 against DEM FRANCHIZE BOYZ in the the Final.
7/17/2007 --- SATURN FC (2) RENO (3)
After a brilliant first half SFC could not avoid another loss against a strong Caribbean side. Sasha Tsyra's header gave the young Saturn team the well deserved 1:0 lead. The team had the opponent on their toes. Chris Slaughter saved a PK after a foul inside the box, but was without a chance when Reno equalized shortly before the half. The second half showed a different SFC team. Players started to get tired quick, little injuries seemed to bother half the team. Reno took advantage of Saturn's weak right defensive side and went ahead 3:1 after 70 minutes. Napoleon Onate's ( trademark ) free kick goal in the 80th minute gave SFC hope. But the late rally was not enough to at least take home one point.
7/8/2007 --- RIVERENA AHEAD 2:0 IN THE QUARTERFINALS
It was not that Internacional played a bad game of futbol this afternoon. It is the way the team does not use their chances to score and put the opponent away. Internacional was in charge of this match for almost the entire 90 minutes, but at the end had nothing to show as a result. Incredible chances missed in both halfs. The fact that the opponent had only two serious chances all day long and their shots ended up in the net is incredible. Internacional must win the second match next Sunday and must score more goals than Riverena. An opponent who looked to be a good draw for the playoffs for Saturn now has a huge advantage and is thinking Semifinal.
7/8/2007 --- SATURN FC TAKE POINT FROM SEAS JAMAICA - 0 : 0
The young Saturn team played a decent match against Seas Jamaica this afternoon. The 0 : 0 result is very good for the opponent, who had some good chances but could only generate little threat for the ( sometimes shaky ) Saturn Defense. Without anchorman Sebastien Salomone directing traffic in the defense some offenses look better than what they actually were. Alex Badila did a fine Job together with Jason Christie and lateron with Sanu Sowe in the center of the backline. But having Badila stuck in the back four does not help with the flow and build up of dangerous attacks. The midfield worked very hard and created some very dangerous moments for the opponent, but it was missing sparkles and quickness to surprise Seas. Matt Burleson and Smiley Dupuy both thought they had scored, only to have a defender clear the ball off the goal line. Then Sasha Tsyra's "golden" goal in the 88th minute was called back for Tsyra coming back from an offside position during the play. A good, but unfortunate call of the assistant Referee. The draw helps the team to inch closer to a playoff spot, but the race is close and FC for certain will need more points against some big opponents over the next weeks.
7/1/2007 --- SATURN FC POINT IN THE CARIBBEAN LEAGUE 2:0
A powerful performance gave FC a victory over ISLANDERS this afternoon in Dekalb. Perfectly orchestrated from the back bone of the team, Sebastien Salomone and Alexandre Badila, the young team had numerous chances to score more goals. But in the end two great scores by Cristobal Perez and Sasha Tsyra guaranteed 3 points in the race for a playoff spot in this competition.
7/1/2007 --- REAL DISPATCH JUVENTUD RIVERENA 4:2
The U 23 Real showed their current good form again against Riverena this morning at LIFE. Goals came from Cristobal Perez, Little Mohamed, Joe Page and Napoleon Onate. Yes, The opponent scored 2 goals, very good goals, but Real's victory was never in doubt. The team dominated the pitch for 90 minutes, no questions asked.
7/1/2007 --- INTERNACIONAL WIN 2:1 TO JUMP UP IN THE STANDINGS
One week before playoff action Internacional pointed against Real Veguense. The team had both David Wolf and Drew Ebensberger return to the backline and dominated the first half in the defensive end. Josh Camp was ordered into Stirker position and gave the opponent plenty of headaches throughout his 70 minutes of action. The midfield worked hard to keep control of the ball. Danny Florez and Chico Cediel played an almost perfect game in the center of the pitch. The unlucky Jeff Carlin had to give way to the new striking force David Wolf in the second 45 minutes, and the switch paid off big time for the team. Two corners, two header goals by Wolf brought the team back to winning ways after the opponents went ahead 1:0 in the 60th minute on a break away. Good luck charms on the sidelines - is there a comeback of Coach David Camp ( ? ) directing traffic - a return the club has been waiting for since many many months.
6/27/2007 --- U23 NATIONAL CUP WEEKEND FOR SATURN FC
The U23 National Cup selection competed in the Regional finals in Alpharetta GA this past weekend. The team was selected over the past 3 months but some of the selected players had to be dropped last minute due to scheduling conflicts. Late added replacement players were necessary to dress 22 players for the hectic schedule. 4 matches in 3 days is a lot to ask from players. The team’s first opponents came from across town; Lawrenceville’s AllStarSelection, the eventual new Regional Champion in this tournament, was a tough match up right at the beginning. The much quicker team with good ideas and vision as to how to overcome Saturn scored two very quick goals. Both goals became a somewhat deja-vu of last years opening game, when Lawrenceville, like Arkansas in the previous year, used the weak right defensive side of the Saturn defense to score on quick attacks. A third goal from a break away signaled the result of this match. The second half showed better play by the Saturn team, but at times helpless, and much to complicated in the build up getting the ball into scoring position. – The second match showed a different Saturn team. The opponents from Tampa FL seemed to be a much better match up with our team. Saturn had good control of the game, and great ideas from Midfield created a good flow of attacks. The defense played very solid and some excellent goalkeeping from Josh Bragg guaranteed a result. Napoleon Onate scored a fantastic 30 yard free kick goal in the 60th minute for the 1:0 victory. Saturn finished off the match without central defender Matt Dale after he got sent off for a second yellow card. That sendoff became a serious problem in the third match on Saturday June 23rd, when Saturn faced off against the reigning Champions Little Rock Arkansas. The defense was again, similar as in the first match against Lawrenceville, open to counter attacks. The 1:3 loss was a result of such counter attacks. It was again Napoleon Onate with yet another superb 25 yard free kick goal who got his team in range at 0:2. Saturn played hard and looked indeed closer to an equalizer than Arkansas to the security goal to win the match. But another break away won the match for Little Rock 3:1. – The last match on Sunday June 24 was a big disappointment to the Saturn team. In control the entire match the team was unable to score from the kick off. Three unbelievable chances were missed in the first half alone. Frustration led to a mistake in the defense in the 50th minute, when St. Pete Florida got the 1:0 go ahead goal. Saturn kept fighting and combining numerous goal threatening plays. The equalizer by Smiley Dupuy in the 70th minute was called back by the Officials for offside. But Sanu Sowe’ s goal only seconds later was allowed for the 1:1 equalizer. Saturn was adding pressure on the Florida team playing good possession soccer in the last minutes of the match. But Lady Luck was on St. Pete’s side. The tie gave them the second place trophy in the last match day 4-way tie for second place. TEAM : Josh Bragg, Christopher Slaughter, Juan Lopez – Jordann Griffith, Christopher Wedge, Matt Dale, Sanu Sowe, Kirk Lindblom, Erick Vidana, Joey Syfert – Matt Burleson, Brett Wooten, Jarrett Mikolaicik , Cristobal Perez, Napoleon Onate, Joe Gross, Mo Bah, Joe Page – Michael Mecerod, Smiley Marc Dupuy, Guy Compore, Sasha Tsyra
6/17/2007 --- REAL ROLL ON IN FIRST POSITION AFTER 4:2 DISPATCH OF RIVER PLATE
The U23 starters for next week's National cup, minus Matt Dale, Joe Page, Joe Gross and Napo Onate, did not play extremely well together, but they were able to hold back River Plate today with some clever moves. Mike Mecerod had two assists and scored on a PK, Cristobal Perez used his 5'2" body to outjump the entire defense and the 6'2" Goalkeeper when he scored on a header. Mecerods second pass found Smiley Dupuy on the PK spot with a great volley finish. The finest goal of the day came from Matt Burleson. The very talented central midfielder looped his effort over the keeper for a 25 yard 4:2. Sanu Sowe centered the defense together with Joey Seyfert for the first time. No real score from the opponent, just two soft PK's, gifts from the referee considering what was not given for Real in the second half when Dupuy was taken down in the opponents box twice without a call.
6/17/2007 --- INTERNACIONAL JUST CANNOT WIN A MATCH THIS SEASON
Another 2:4 loss in the books for the last place Internacional. Goals by OGU and Noel Kierans were not enough to get points against River Playa. With playoffs just around the corner the team has to work with more ambition and passion if they want to turn their season around.
6/10/2007 --- EXCELLENT PLAY OF SATURN FC U23 DESPITE HOT TEMPERATURES - 4:2 OVER HIGHLANDERS
Saturn FC had no problems with the ADASL First Division Highlanders in their Caribbean League Tournament match. Goals came from Wes Nichols' brilliant header in the 30th minute. Alex Badila finished a PK spot kick and Smiley Dupuy finished his chance for the 3:0 lead. Highlanders made a comeback effort and scored two goals midway through the second half. Napoleon Onate's header off a Joe Seyfert freekick put things back in order for the young Real team with the 4:2 result.
6/10/2007 --- REAL WIN PROTEST - VEGUENSE WITHOUT CREDENTIALS AND WITH ILLEGAL PLAYER
Only 8 players were able to face Real Veguense today. But those eight played a brilliant and clever match. Real Saturn went up 1:0 in the first half after Sasha Tsyra dribbled around the keeper and scored. Veguense were able to equalize quickly. Midway through the second half Erick Vidana looped the ball over the Veguense Keeper for the 2:1. But again Veguense equalized within minutes. Shortly before the end of the game Veguense scored the winning goal on a breakaway. HOWEVER, Real Veguense was caught with a number of Irregularities and had to take a forfeit, which had Real Saturn U23 extend their lead in the first place standing.
6/10/2007 --- INTERNACIONAL FALL TO QUICK LAGUNA TEAM
Internacional faced Deportiva Laguna, a quick and hard working team in the division. The Saturn team had no answers to the fast pace of the opponent and was lucky that the heat also forced Laguna to step off the gas in the second half. The 3:0 loss is yet another warning sign for the out of shape and rythm Club team.
6/3/2007 --- REAL U23 TIE DEPORTIVO LAGUNA 2:2
Errors on both sides led to two second half penalties for the 2:2 result. "Smiley" Marc Dupuy sent his team ahead 1:0 in the first half, but a quick equalizer had the teams at 1:1 at the half. The match was played hard by both teams, but without many ideas to make it exciting. Good result for REAL to stay up top in the standings.
6/3/2007 --- INTERNACIONAL POINT AGAINST RIVERNA
A match missing plenty of incredients ended in a 1:1 draw of the two rivals. Riverena opened the scoring in the first half. Goalgetter Jeff Carlin started the second half and scored the equalizer in the 46th minute.
6/3/2007 --- SATURN FC U23 MAKE IT TOUGH FOR CARIB LEAGUE FAVS BOYS TOWN
A match that never should have been lost. Saturn had the majority of ball possession in both halfs, but three absolutely horrible mistakes in the defense gave Boys Town the edge. The Caribbean team used their chances well. Saturn on the other side was helpless in front of the opponents net. Jason Christie brought his team closer in the 60th minute with a PK ( 1:2). Boys Town received a red card send off at the same time for a brutal foul on "Smiley" Marc Dupuy. Dupuy scored the equalizer but the very week center referee was overuled by the defenders who decided he must have seen a foul. Amazing as a matter of fact, since the linesman signaled goal. The actual matchwinner 3:1 for Boys Town came in a counter attack, when Saturn was pushing for the equalizer. Disappointing result for the team after being in charge of the game.
5/14/2007 --- SATURN RETRO TAKE ANOTHER INDOOR TITLE
Internacional started out PLAYOFF Night and dismissed Cleveland Steamers. Next up for the team was Hooters International who forced a PK shootout after a 3:3 tie in regulation time. Birthday boy Jordann Griffith converted his PK in the fifth round for the win, after Chris Slaughter had saved Hooters' 5th shot. RETRO defeated REAL in the first match, and went on to play INTER in the semi final. The match was well played and Retro won 3:1. The FINAL paired the Saturn teams. Internacional surprised Retro with two quick goals by Wes Nichols and Brett Wooten. RETRO started their comeback and scored 4 unanswered goals. Jason Christie (2), Ramiro Canovas and David Wolf "netted" for Retro. The 4:2 victory for Saturn Retro settled the Championship. RETRO: Brad Bagwell- Jason Christie, Chico Cediel, Alex Badila, Todd Gispert, Ramiro Canovas and David Wolf. SATURN INTERNACIONAL: Chris Slaughter, Paul Tyrell - Sasha Tsyra, Cristobal Perez, Eric Wiggins, Erick Vidana, Jordann Griffith, Melvin Hill, Napoleon Onate, Wes Nichols and Brett Wooten.
5/13/2007 --- DEBUT IN THE CARIBBEAN LEAGUE - 4:4 TIE AGAINST INFERNO
A first for Saturn FC - the CSL President's team INFERNO welcomed Saturn into the Caribbean League this afternoon. With a few changes in defense Saturn FC played well enough to take a point home. It looked like a win until the 89th minute, when Inferno was awarded a penalty, after a Saturn defender was supposed to have handled the ball inside the Saturn box. No chance for Keeper Chris Slaughter, a well taken PK gave Inferno the tie. Saturn fell behind 1:0 early on a mishandled ball in the defensive area. But Joe Grainger equalized only minutes later. A brilliant play by new center forward Chris Mahaffey led to a "tip in" goal by newcomer Joe Page. Inferno equalized on another defensive mistake, 2:2. Bucky Corban came over left wing in the 40th minute and his fabulous cross gave Joe Page his second of the day. 3 : 2 was the score for most of the second half, with some good scoring chances on both sides, but the smarter play on the Saturn end by central midfielders Alex Caskey and Brett Wooten. Inferno started a big last effort in the last ten minutes of the match and were able to equlize again , 3:3. Chris Mahaffey, after another brilliant "wall play" with Wes Nichols, found his way into the box and scored the 4:3 go ahead in the 75th minute. The PK gift to Inferno was the final 4:4 result.
5/7/2007 --- SATURN DERBY DOMINATED BY REAL - 4:0
Real's U23 selection showed all calm and meant business in their first Saturn Derby of the season ( and a first for most of the players ). The Derby veterans on Internacional however had a tough day at the park, when the young energetic midfield of Real with Alex Casky and Captain Brett Wooten started to slowly dismantle the Internacional midfield and even found time to score. Even though Internacional tried to open up with a bang, Jaime Benedetti and Claudio Silva were in good hands with dominant play by Joey Seyfert on left fullback and Erick Vidana with a solid performance on right fullback. Alex Caskey started the scoring with a brilliant strike, leaving Brad Bagwell without chance. Caskey headed in the 2:0 in the 35th minute off a corner kick. He was left all alone by the Inter defense. The second half showed a bit more intensity from Internacional, but by far not enough to give Real any trouble. The defense around Matthew Dale and stopper Pete Berard played no nonsense "futbol" and Keeper Christopher Slaughter was only forced to one excellent save thoughout the entire match. Bucky Corban entered the match in the 60th minute for Sasha Tsyra. Corban teamed up with Wooten in cdntral midfield giving Caskey more space to open up the field with passes into space for Jarret Mikolaicik on right wing and Cristobal Perez on the opposite side. It payed off in the 71st minute, when Corban scored from 18 yards out, with a bit of help from the second post. Jarret Mikolaicik scored his first Saturn goal minutes before the final whistle, when he was one on one with Bagwell and his shot deflected into the net for the 4:0 result.
5/5/2007 --- OUT OF TECATE CUP - 2:4 AGAINST FUTURE STARS
Saturn ended their 2007 Copa Tecate campaign with a mixed performance last night. After a hopeful opening 45 minutes, which gave Saturn a 1:0 lead into the break, Future Stars took over and scored three unanswered goals. The last 15 minutes of the match showed Saturn with a comeback run and excellent chances to tie the match just before the end. A breakaway goal in the 89th minute sealed the Future Stars 4 : 2 victory.
4/29/2007 --- U23 LINE UP FOR REAL IN 5:1 WIN OVER RIVER PLATE
Some Real players, busy with Copa Tecate on Saturday, were given the day off on Sunday. This gave Coach Melvin Hill the opportunity, to check the talent on hand for the 2007 U23 competition. River Plate was a complicated opponent for a team that has not played together much. But it only took 45 minutes to find a rythm and show success on this Sunday afternoon. A first half start up error in the Saturn defense gave River Plate a gift goal. The start of the second half turned the momentum for Real and Stephen Muray lifted the spirits with his equalizer in the 50th minute. Minutes later Alex Caskey scored the second Saturn goal. Caskey and Brett Wooten controlled midfield from the middle of the first half throughout the match. Sweeper Matthew Dale used his skill to send a few long passes into the offensive half of the field. While Brenner Nogueira and Padraig McDonagh saw a lot of action over right wing in the first half, it shifted to the left wing and Kyle Hurst in the second. Hurst crossed the ball into the opponents box in the 60th minute where Aaron Mora finished perfectly into the far corner for the 3:1. River Plate got a bit nasty now and chipped away at Saturn ankles. It lead to a red card send off for River Plate, but at that time the control of the match was entirely with the Saturn youngsters. McDonagh cruised on right wing and his pass met with Sasha Tsyra in the 70th minute for the 4:1. Bucky Corban, a bit older than the U23 team mates on the pitch, came on in the 75th minute for the first time in months. Corban had to test his injured knee in game situation and was confident that his return is just around the corner. Hurst got a little help from the Keeper in the 80th minute when he scored on a cross that slipped through the keepers hands. Well deserved victory for the team. - Chris Slaughter - Jordann Griffith (45. Erick Vidana ), Matthew Dale, Napoleon Onate (45. Pete Berard ), Joey Seifert - Padraig McDonagh, Brett Wooten, Alex Caskey ( 75. Bucky Corban ), Cristobal Perez (45. Kyle Hurst )- Brenner Nogueira (55. Sasha Tsyra), Stephen Muray ( 60. Aaron Mora)
4/29/2007 --- INTERNACIONAL SCHOOL DELFINES IN 5:2 VICTORY
With only 11 available players, Internacional had to make several line up changes and welcomed the rare appearances of some of the squad members, including the introduction of Georgia Legend Brandon Jenkins. The match started very slow for Internacional who used clever midfield play to gain numerous scoring chances in the first 30 minutes of the match. Jaime Benedetti scored the 1:0 close to the end of the first 45 minutes. But Delfines answered immediately and tied the game. The match went into the 60th minute, when U23 coach Melvin "42" Hill scored from 45 yards out. Finally Jeff Carlin ended his unlucky streak and finished for the 3:1. Delfines got a penalty decision after a break away foul on keeper Brad Bagwell and added to their scoring, 2:3. "42" Hill broke free in the opponents box and was taken down by the keeper, who was shown the red card for his foul. Noel Kierans does not miss from the spot - 4:2. The final goal of the match came off a mishit cross from Jenkins. Needed points for the team this Sunday with the 5:2 victory. - Brad Bagwell - David Wolf, Jon Arsenault, Joshua Camp, Matt Davenport - Jaime Benedetti, Noel Kierans, Mike "Chico" Cediel, Brandon Jenkins - Mel"42"Hill, Jeff Carlin.
4/29/2007 --- AZTLAN GAINESVILLE DEFEAT SATURN FC WITH PASSION LAST NIGHT - 2:3
Saturn lost to Aztlan in their last group match after the Gainesville local heros played an inspiring second half. The team needed to win to stay in the tournament and they accomplished their plan. Saturn FC was dominant in the first half, after withstanding the opening pressure of the opponent. After 10 minutes the attacking waves of Aztlan calmed down, and Saturn found the space they needed to follow their game plan. But it took until the 41st minute for Benjie McKendry to find Damone Priestley on left wing. Priestley made no mistake with the precise throughpass and finished in style for the 1:0. Only three minutes later, Napoleon Onate's powerful freekick from 25 yards could not be handled by Aztlan, McKendry won the rebound and beat the keeper for the 2:0. In added on time Aztlan won a penalty decision when their player collided with Sebastien Salomone inside the Saturn box. No chance for keeper George Prieto who reacted well but could not reach the well struck PK. Aztlan power started the second half and dominated play. Extreme pressure on the Saturn midfield resulted in mistakes by Saturn and a unneccessary handball led to a freekick for Aztlan in the 52nd minute. The kick was perfect for the Gainesville team- 2:2. The 60th minute spelled disaster for Saturn. Another misplayed ball ended up on right wing for Aztlan, the quick winger broke free and his cross into the 6yard box was met by a flying center forward who headed the ball into the net for the 2:3. Thirty minutes of Saturn constant pressure on the opponents net led to nothing. The effort was there, the finish was missing. Our team got close a couple of times, but passion took over for the Gainesville team, a proud victory was the result.
4/21/2007 --- SATURN FC (1) MANCHESTER (0)
Manchester was a very tough opponent for Saturn's Copa Tecate team. But the defense withstood the power attack in the second half and carried the 1:0 over time. Damone Priestley scored off a cross from Troy Garner in the 46th minute, 40 seconds after the restart. Saturn played a good, solid match in the first half, when Manchester had only few offensive ideas. In fact it was Saturn with some good chances for a goal. But after the 1:0 go ahead goal by Priestley it was Manchester on a powerplay. The "lone stars" pushed everybody up, but were missing concentration and luck in their finishing. The two or three actual shots on goal were handled well by George Prieto in the Saturn net.
4/7/2007 --- ONATE'S LATE GOAL GIVES SATURN FIRST COPA TECATE WIN IN 2007
"Super-SUB" Napoleon Onate of the U23 Saturn Selection came on the pitch in the 85th minute and scored the winning goal against Cafe Col with his first ball contact. His header found net after a corner kick and gave the team the deserved win after being down 0:2 within the first 8 minutes of the match. Delays with the Copa Opening Ceremonies did not sit well with the Saturn team. The very cold weather did its part to all players. The five minutes "warm up" time given to teams was not enough for Saturn. And it showed in the first 10 minutes, when the quick Cafe Col forwards just had a better start than the SFC defense. The first goal in the 3rd. minute was a perfect move against the Saturn offside trap. Keeper George Prieto had no chance to avoid the goal. Only 4 minutes later, the Saturn defense got surprised by another quick throughball over right wing, when the outside midfielder of Cafe Col found himself unmarked and went through to score the 2:0. Again Prieto with no chance to get to the ball. Saturn stepped up and took control of the match immediately. Good combination play with Rama Canovas, Damone Priestley and Woody Woodall started the attack on Cafe Col goal for the remaining 80 minutes of the match. Lucas Okolie started his engines and used his tremendous speed to open up the Cafe Col defense. Okolie had 3,4 chances to score but was quite unlucky with his finishes. Central midfield became a battlefield where Saturn's Canovas and Craig Peter took charge and stayed in control throughout the match. The defense with Larry Cainion, the central towers Sebastien Salomon and David Wolf, and Alexandre Badila had no more problems controlling the Columbian forwards. Set plays and standards executed by Jason Christie created a number of chances in the Cafe Col box. Two Veterans brought the team back. Woody Woodall scored in the 40th minute off a Christie set play, when the opponents back line could not clear the ball. Wes Nichols came in for Jason Christie in the 60th minute and enforced Saturn's play over the left wing. Another shock to the Saturn team, when Craig Peter received a red card which yet needs explanation. Peter took a shot from 30 yards out, an opponent ran into him, Peter saw red. Unbelievable ! With Okolie beating the opponent over the right wing, Nichols induced the same medicine over left wing. The pressure was now slowing down Cafe Col's game, and Saturn remained in the opponents half for a power play. Damone Priestley scored the equalizer in the 70th minute when he was one on one with Juan Lopez, Keeper for Cafe Col, sliding the ball under the Keeper. Onate entered the match in the 85th minute to replace Woodall. Nichols had been waiting to take the corner kick when the substitution took place. The restart and corner kick led to Onate's first contact with the ball. A header into the unprotected upper 90 of goal. A super score at the right time in the match. A solid finish in the defensive half of Saturn to the game - Win in a rather difficult task to come back from 0:2. Cafe Col gave Saturn's Copa Tecate selection a good match but could not capitalize on their early lead. Congratulations for the win go to the entire team. Saturn showed the confidence and will to win over 80 minutes and never looked back to what happened early in the match. A good comeback victory.
4/1/2007 --- INTERNACIONAL (0) REAL VEGUENSE (0)
Internacional played solid soccer, but was very unlucky finishing their chances. Emanuel Obiaro missed 4, 5 solid goal chances. He did cross the ball to Wes Nichols for a perfect goal in the 40th minute, but it was called back for offsides. Which it really was not as the pass was played back from the endline. Rama Canovas played an excellent game forcing the match into the opponents half. Wes Nichols tried his very best to make things happen in the offensive area, but was denied by decent saves of the Veguense Keeper. Internacional is reassembled just like Real, and it will take its time to fire on all cylinders. Eventually the dominance displayed in the matches will lead to scoring and winning. The team displayed discipline, even though Obiaro was sent off for a second yellow in the 70th minute. Numbers were even again five minutes later, when Veguense lost one of their players to a second yellow card offense.
4/1/2007 --- REAL SATURN (0) DEP. LAGUNA (1)
A defensive faux pas led to the only goal of the match this afternoon. The ball was lost in the defensive midfield, it landed between Keeper Chris Slaughter and Erick Vidana who had lost sight of his opponent. The Laguna player chipped the ball into the net. Slaughter made 2 or 3 brilliant saves, but there was not much of an offensive threat the defenders had to handle. Sebastien Salomone had a brilliant match, his clean tackles even in the goalbox were unbelievable.Real had more of the match than the opponent, but what was missing was a clear goal scoring opportunity. Good match by Brett Wooten and Lukas Okolie. The newly formed team will take some more time to find itself. There is good football and there are mistakes. The players will eventually form a strong team.
3/26/2007 --- REAL WIN BIG - INTERNACIONAL LOSE AGAINST ARCH RIVAL RIVER PLAYA AGAIN
Real pulled out a 8 : 0 victory over Valencia with 4 goals from Sasha Tsyra,2 from Brenner Nogueira, 1 each from Aaron Mora and Cristobal Perez. - Internacional had problems keeping 11 players on the pitch and lost 1:3 to River Playa.
4/9/2006 --- MUCHAS GRACIAS INTERNACIONAL - CAMPEON GEMESA
Saturn Internacional waited until the very last second of the 120 minute match ( 0:0 after regulation ) until they tied River Plate 1:1 in the D II final Sunday afternoon. River Plate went ahead in the 110th minute, when the very sure and strong Saturn defense could not clear the ball and a hard shot from 6 yards out went through aq number of legs before it hit net. One minute later Jon Arsenault was sent off for a second yellow offense (questionable). Skipper Melvin Hill pushed all of his remaining 8 players ( Ebensberger was sent off with a straight red card in the 70th minute ) forward and with only a few seconds left in the match the team equalized 1:1. It was Will McKenzie's superlong throw which was headed into the net by Daniel Bagwell. His brother, Keeper Brad Bagwell then did his magic on the Penalty takers of River Plate - 3 of them missed the target entirely, the fourth hit the post. Another pair of Saturn brothers, Matt and Pat Roper netted for Internacional for the victory. A massive win against an excellent River Plate team.- B.Bagwell- P. Roper, M. Hill, A. Ebensberger, W. McKenzie - T Kusema, Josh Robinson, N. Kierans (60. M. Roper), J. Arsenault - S. Tsyra ( 105. D. Bagwell ), J. Carlin (- K. James )
